After four years touring Latin America, the UK, Europe and the USA, Anglo-Chilean avant-pop phenomenon, Intimate Stranger - formed in 2006 by Chilean guitarist Lautaro Vera and English/Croatian singer/bassist Tessie Stranger, has finally had the breakthrough they deserve with the release of their second album Under in June 2010. As of November 2010 the band is based in Austin, Texas, playing with drummer Victor Ziolkowski and keyboardist Ismael Palma, and is currently undergoing their second US tour Moments of Riot 2011.

The title song Under is getting extensive mainstream and collage radio play, (including Austin’s 101 X, BBC Radio 6, and top South American stations Horizonte and Rock and Pop), and its video is currently on MTV in Latin America. The press reviews for the album and in particular the second single Moments are sensational. The album was voted amongst the top national albums of 2010 by 6 of Chile’s major music critics, and its sound was recently described on Tom Robinson's Introducing BBC 6 Radio as being “gritty and dirty and calm and etheral at the same time, with beautiful vocals – a difficult balancing act”.

Following their highly successful showcase at SXSW in 2010 the band made a big splash again in 2011, with various press picking out Intimate Stranger as a definite band to watch for this year. The Austin Chronicle has highlighted them as one of Austin’s best new acts and among the top ten of 2011, “The Anglo-Chilean quartet just moved to town – signed to Austin's Fringecore Records – and made quite the first impression. In obvious radio singles "Moments" and "Under," the international fourpiece mixed the glossy energy of New Wave with a modern, alt-rock edge, anchored by Croatian singer/bassist Tessie S-Woodgate. They won't be strangers for long.”

Having played in venues as diverse as The Rock Garden, and Dublin Castle in London, Roxy in Buenos Aires, Club Blondie and Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, The Parish and Emo´s in Austin, One Eyed Jack´s in New Orleans and the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY, the band is renowned for their dynamic live performances, as was seen at this year’s Plutopia 2011: The Future of Play, where they played alongside huge live responsive 3D projections.

Two new album releases for Intimate Stranger's "Moments of Riot Tour"

Fringecore Records have put out two new releases to coincide with Intimate Stranger's Moments of Riot Tour, which takes in much of the USA from January through June, with a short break for SXSW. The first is a remastered version of their 2007 album "Lifejacket' and the second is an album of recordings from a live session at Radio Horizonte in Santiago Chile in November 2010, plus a number of demos and a video of In the Black from the band's live show at Maxine's in Hot Springs, AZ from a previous US tour in Spring 2010.

Intimate stranger 'Under' video directed by Lucas Tripodi

It has been few months now since we started working with Lucas Tripodi on 2 videos for Intimate Stranger. Under is the first one to be released. Lucas' idea was to mix two photo techniques together, 'stop motion' and 'light painting' to create the effect in the video. It took quite a few sessions to get all the photos we wanted - the shoots consistied of waiting in the dark for a minute while our helpers moved diferent children's toys with flashing coloured lights all over the room. It was a bit strange standing in the middle of people running around with a mixture of 'twinkle twinkle little star', animal noises and beeps going off around you. It was an exciting experience making it and seeing the end result. Gracias Lucas!

En esta primera sesión tendremos de invitados a Intimate Stranger, que luego de desarrollarse en Londres y dar vueltas por algunos festivales de Estados Unidos, llego a Chile para sorprendernos con su dulce y oscuro Indie rock de alta factura.

Y para encender la pista, nuestro amigo Nico castro (Extravaganza / radio Horizonte) abrirá la noche con una fina selección de nuevos sonidos que nos dejaran a todos completamente de cabeza. Para dar paso a la distorsión de los clásicos del post punk, el brit y el garage más sudoroso a cargo de nuestro nuevo residente Bruno Battaglia, recién llegado de los okupas europeos. Astudillo por su parte, creador y anfitrión permanente de Riot Club, cerrara la noche con un desenfrenado set de guitarras, remixes y ruido.

Todo esto acompañado de las bellas visuales de desayunada que nos dejaran completamente desorbitados.

As mentioned in a previous blog - we are currently recording our second album. Its all going super duper well!

After a year writing and recording demos in our home studio, we spent last week in Pablito's studio (The Ganjas, Casino) to record the second album. Its a real dynamic mix of tracks and the themes are pretty heavy and melancholic. Its been a few years since the first album and since then we have evolved a unique sound, as well as incorporated organs and synths.

I was in an a Rolling Stone Chile special about 'Mujeres del Rock Chileno 2009' in January - this is the foto they took and published with the interview (which was good up until the end when they made up a response... which was out of order! They basically wrote that i said I didn't like Santiago or living here, quoting me saying something Lautaro said...To clear that up: I really like living in Santiago...so there!)

Intimate Stranger, grupo formado el 2005 en Santiago de Chile por Lauatro, ex-guitarrista de los conjuntos rock Cucsifae, Donfango y Disturbio Menor y por la cantante y bajista Tessie Spoljaric-Woodgate.

A fines del 2005 se radican en Londres donde se unen con Ric Jonston, baterista de la banda The Black Dove Experiment. Rapidamente desarollan un sonido propio que es reflejado en su primer disco 'Life Jacket'.

El trio crea melodias pop que ne conjunto con su simple instrumentacion y una voz feminina completan un estilo que les da una caracteristica unica dentro del rock alternativo. En sus letras mezclan exitosamente el sentido de fantasia y la crudeza de la vida urbana.

Intimate Stranger actuo en eventos de la escena londienense y realizo giras en el continente europeo y en USA. Toco en festivales de musica como los de SXSW 2008 en Austin, Texas.

Ahora la banda esta de vuelta en Chile para grabar su segundo disco junto al baterista original, Mauricio Muñoz, quien recientemente vuelve a formar parte de la banda.
